Know Yourself – Wa Keur Gui

I find it amazing that a lot of these MC’s will spit whole verses in English without any formal education in the language…not to say that some of them don’t learn English in school but many of them don’t.

The name of this group, “Wa Keur Gui“, means “people of the house” which is how they say “family” in Wolof, so this group is “The Family“.

Anti-Apartheid Video Featuring Run, DMC & Jam Master Jay

Thursday was Jam Master Jay‘s birthday. In tribute I wanted to post a performance of Run-DMC in Senegal or another African country. This was the closest thing I could find. It is a video from the 1980’s calling for a boycott to a luxurious resort called Sun City to help bring an end to apartheid in South Africa.

Here is an old rap video against apartheid.

And here is an example of some ill South African HipHop.

But let’s not forget this post is about Jam Master Jay.
